Revision Standard - Active. The technical requirements for the design, fabrication, testing, and installation of a gas insulated substations are covered. The parameters to be supplied by the purchaser are set, and the technical requirements for the design, fabrication, testing, and installation details to be furnished by the manufacturer are established.
The requirements for gas-insulated substations (GIS) for alternating current (ac) applications above 52 kV are contained in this standard. GIS is an assembly of switching and bus components and may contain a number of buses, circuit breakers, switches, instrument transformers, arresters, and primary terminations. This standard includes all the requirements (including switching requirements) of disconnect switches, ground switches, and fault making ground switches included in a GIS. For the other components comprising the GIS, the additional and/or specific GIS requirements are contained in this standard.
