New IEEE Standard - Superseded.
The various tests that are made on AC high-voltage circuit breakers are summarized. Accepted methods used in making the tests are described, and the tests that will demonstrate ratings under ANSI/IEEE standards are specified. The following categories of tests are considered: design tests, production tests, tests after delivery, field tests, and conformance tests.
This test procedure summarizes the various tests which are made on ac high-voltage circuit breakers, describes accepted methods used in making the tests, and specifies the tests which will demonstrate ratings under ANSI/IEEE standards. It does not preclude the use of other equivalent or more effective methods of demonstrating ratings. The tests are divided into the following classifications --Design tests --Production tests --Tests after delivery --Field tests --Conformance tests
The purposes of the test procedure are:1) To establish that a circuit breaker of the design on test can perform satisfactorily, both electrically and mechanically, up to the ratings assigned to it; 2) To establish that production breakers have been adequately tested during manufacture and after assembly and that the breakers have characteristics essentially the same as the breaker of identical design which was subjected to design tests
