The provisions of this Recommended Practice apply to all electric equipment and wiring connected to machinery and equipment commonly used in the manufacturing areas of textile mills, starting at the place of connection of the power supply to the machine electric equipment. They are intended as minimum requirements whether the electric equipment is a part of the machine or is supplied and installed by the user. This Recommended Practice shall apply to electric equipment having a supply voltage of 600 volts or less
The purpose of this Recommended Practice is to define and recommend specifications for electric apparatus and devices, and installation practices to be followed in the application of such apparatus to textile machinery to promote: a. Safety to personnel and equipment, including the reduction of fire and accident hazards. b. Uninterrupted production. c. Reduced maintenance, and increased life of equipment. d. Over-all economy in textile mill operation. This publication is intended to bring to the attention of engineers, management and mill owners in the textile industry, and to equipment suppliers the important features of well-designed electric apparatus and installations to meet the specific requirements of textile machinery.
