Revision Standard - Inactive-Withdrawn. A uniform set of guidelines for communications and inter-operations of remote terminal units (RTUs) and intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) in an electric utility substation is provided. A mechanism for adding data elements and message structures to this recommended practice is described.
This project will make the Trial Use document a full Recommended Practice. The present standard was published in March 1998 as a Trial Use Recommended Practice. However, the protocols listed in the document were actually selected by the Task Force in 1995. It has already shown to be a valuable standard and is being widely used in the industry.
The protocols listed in the existing Trial Use Recommended Practice IEEE 1379 have proven to be very useful and should be retained as an industry recommended practice. The intent is to re-validate the existing document and delete the words "Trial Use".
