Lung ventilators for medical use - Particular requirements for basic safety and essential performance - Part 5: Gas-powered emergency resuscitators (Adopted ISO 10651-5:2006, first edition, 2006-02-01, with Canadian deviations)
CSA Preface This is the first edition of CAN/CSA-Z10651-5, Lung ventilators for medical use - Particular requirements for basic safety and essential performance - Part 5: Gas-powered emergency resuscitators , which is an adoption, with Canadian deviations, of the identically titled ISO (International Organization for Standardization) Standard 10651-5 (first edition, 2006-02-01). This CSA Standard, and CAN/CSA-Z10651-4-08, Lung ventilators - Part 4: Particular requirements for operator-powered resuscitators, replace CAN/CSA-Z8382-94, Resuscitators Intended for Use with Humans. At the time of publication, ISO 10651-5:2006 is available from ISO in English only. CSA will publish the French version when it becomes available from ISO. This Standard was reviewed for Canadian adoption by the CSA Subcommittee on Anaesthetic Equipment, under the jurisdiction of the CSA Technical Committee on Anaesthetic Equipment, Respiratory Technology, and Critical Care Equipment and the Strategic Steering Committee on Health Care Technology, and has been formally approved by the Technical Committee. This Standard has been approved as a National Standard of Canada by the Standards Council of Canada. Scope This part of ISO 10651 specifies the basic safety and essential performance requirements for gas-powered emergency resuscitators (3.10) intended for use with humans by first responders. This equipment is intended for emergency field use and is intended to be continuously operator attended in normal use. This part of ISO 10651 also specifies the requirements for resuscitator sets (3.22). This part of ISO 10651 is not applicable to electrically-powered resuscitators. NOTE ISO 10651-3 covers emergency and transport ventilators.
