High-voltage isolating switches
Preface
This is the second edition of C22.2 No. 58 of a Series of Standards issued by the Canadian Standards Association under Part II of the Canadian Electrical Code. It supersedes the previous edition published in 1949. The Scope has been extended to cover voltage ratings up to and including 46 kV to harmonize with CSA Standard C22.2 No. 31, Switchgear Assemblies. Impulse and corona—extinction tests are mandatory for switches rated over 15 kV. The electrical spacings required for switches rated 15 kV and less also have been harmonized with those of CSA Standard C22.2 No. 31. For general information on the Standards of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part II, see the Preface
of the latest issue of CSA Standard C22.2 No. 0, General Requirements--Canadian Electrical Code, Part II. This Standard was prepared by a Subcommittee of the Technical Committee on Industrial Products under the jurisdiction of the Standards Steering Committee on the Canadian Electrical Code, Part II, and was formally approved by these Committees. This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group.
Scope
1.1 This Standard applies to isolating switches, without enclosures, for use indoors at voltages from 751 to 46 000 V ac or for installation in switchgear assemblies (see CSA Standard C22.2 No. 31) or similar equipment for use indoors or outdoors, in nonhazardous locations, in accordance with the Rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.
