Solid-State Speed Controls
This is the first edition of No. 156 of a series of Standards issued by Canadian Standards Association under Part II of the Canadian Electrical Code. It is written in SI (metric) units. This Standard applies to solid-state, single-phase motor speed controls for use in nonhazardous locations, and for installation in accordance with the Rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I. This edition incorporates Electrical Bulletin No. 1207, Requirements for Solid State Speed Control Switches, January 3, 1979. For general information on Standards of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part II, see the Preface of CSA Standard C22.2 No. 0, General Requirements—Canadian Electrical Code, Part II. This Standard was prepared by a Subcommittee of the Technical Committee on Industrial Products under the jurisdiction of the Standards Steering Committee on Canadian Electrical Code, Part II, and was formally approved by these Committees.
This Standard applies to solid-state, single-phase motor speed controls, rated at 300 V and less, 20 A and less, designed to be used in circuits for the control of shaded pole, permanent split capacitor, or universal motors, and other motors suitable for use with this type of control, intended for use in nonhazardous locations in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.
This Standard applies to controls that may incorporate a switch to place an air gap in series with the motor; and when provided with a series switch, (
This Standard applies to controls intended for (
This Standard does not apply to resistor, transformer, and variable frequency type motor speed controls.
