1.1 This specification covers the chemical, mechanical, and metallurgical requirements for two grades of wrought 40cobalt-20chromium-16iron-15nickel-7molybdenum alloy in the form of wire, strip and bar used for the manufacture of surgical implants.
1.2 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard.
This specification covers the requirements for two grades of wrought 40cobalt-20chromium-16iron-15nickel- 7molybdenum alloy in the form of wire and strip used for the manufacture of surgical implants. The heat analysis shall conform to the prescribed chemical composition requirements of grade 1 or 2. The tensile strength, hardness, yield strength, elongation, and microstructure shall be tested to meet the requirements specified.
