Note 2—After cutting, each specimen should be examined visually to insure the edges are undamaged (free of nicks). On a periodic basis specimen edge quality should be evaluated by microscopic examination. To determine when cutting blades need to be replaced or sharpened, a control chart of tensile strength and percent elongation at break (see Test Method D 882
